FireWire 400 or FireWire 800: Firewire has long led with FireWire DVD solutions, and was the first to combine the newest speed drives with the new, faster 800Mbps FireWire. There is a difference between the two standards and how it will affect DVD performance, and only FirewireDirect is providing these solutions... not only the throughput to keep up with today's fastest burners, but the room to grow. You can't run a 400 drive on an 800 system without bringing the device chain down to legacy speeds. If you have one of the new G5 Macs, a screaming modern PC with FireWire 800, or you ever intend to upgrade to FireWire 800, you need FireWire 800 now. These drives will be out front for a long time.

Burning Speed: The fastest drives available today write at 16x or 8x on most DVD media formats. FirewireDirect offers three drives, a Sony, a Pioneer, and our preferred OEM mechanism, all of them available at 8X (Pioneer supports 16x + Dual Layer) write speed and all of them in solid FirewireDirect external systems - backed, as always, by our expert FireWire DVD support team.
